ABOUT THIS POSITION

Located in Whitby, Ontario, North American Steel is a leading manufacturer of Steel Pallet Racking and Industrial Storage Systems. We have been helping our customers to successfully and efficiently increase capacity, build higher, grow larger and stay on schedule since 1972.

 

We are currently seeking competent Welders to join our team.
Our welders have a base hourly wage and have the opportunity to earn piece work incentive.
We operate Monday – Friday, rotating days and afternoon shifts every couple of weeks.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATION:

  • CWB Certification (Class 1 & 2) (Note: We are primarily MIG welding)
  • Knowledge of CWB welding procedure data sheets
  • Lift truck license (An asset, but not required)
  • Propane Training (An asset, but not required)
  • WHMIS Training
  • Able to read blueprints / drawings

 

DUTIES:

  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Perform pre-shift inspection and enter into log book
  • Load material on to welding jig – weld
  • Set up end frame jig
  • Remove to a rack
  • Move full racks to paint line
  • Move material using a lift truck (*If Necessary)
  • Load spools of wire on feeders (wire is loaded approximately 10’ in the air and weighs approximately 40 lbs.)
  • Be attentive to the quality of work being performed. Please ensure and maintain quality of finished products
  • Other tasks as periodically assigned by the company
  • General housekeeping, all materials placed in designated areas
  • Attend all continuing education and required job related training provided by the company.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Coveralls
  • Hearing Protection
  • Safety glasses
  • Welding gloves
  • Work boots
  • Welding helmets with no less than No. 11 filter flip up lens must be worn when performing any type of electric arc welding, arc airing, or mig welding.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Some heavy lifting required- up to at least 50lbs
  • Manual material handling may be necessary
  • Standing / Repetitive tasks involving bending and twisting for long periods of time
